27th Parliamentary-Intelligence Security Forum – A Global Security Agenda for Africa
Hon. Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada emphasized the urgent need for a global security agenda for Africa. He highlighted Africa’s vast diversity and 1.3 billion people, facing challenges such as terrorism, insurgency, piracy, cybercrime, poverty, hunger, illiteracy, ethnic and religious divisions, external interference, and state fragility. Groups like Boko Haram exploit governance weaknesses and socioeconomic disparities, further destabilizing communities.
He stressed that security threats in one country can spill over to neighbors, making regional and global cooperation essential. He called for international support in military assistance, development, education, and institution-building while prioritizing human rights, social justice, and economic development. He advocated aligning these efforts with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to improve education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
He urged African leaders and parliaments to strengthen governance, enact inclusive and dynamic laws, ensure equitable resource distribution, and actively participate in global decision-making. Collaboration with international partners, particularly the United States, is key to supporting Africa’s agency in shaping and implementing solutions. Sharada concluded that Africa’s future is intertwined with global stability and prosperity, requiring deep engagement and investment.
