He highlighted the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party and its involvement in transnational criminal organizations and corruption. Senator Cassidy stressed that the geopolitical importance of the Philippines is significant in the context of the global struggle against the Chinese Communist Party. He emphasized that China’s disregard for international rules and norms poses a threat to freedom-loving nations. He cited the concept of “geostrategic corruption,” where external actors use corrupt methods to influence the politics, economy, and society of other countries, as a significant concern.
Drawing parallels to the situation in Latin America, Senator Cassidy noted the pervasive influence of corruption and its detrimental impact on society and citizens. He emphasized the need for concrete actions to combat corruption, including strengthening anti-corruption safeguards and holding those involved accountable. He urged all participants to uphold the highest ethical standards and to resist the influence of corrupt actors, and as such maintain the trust of the people and preserve the trust in governments and institutions. Senator Cassidy concluded by emphasizing the importance of courage and conviction in serving one’s nation and resisting the encroachment of the Chinese Communist Party. He urged everyone to serve with integrity and uphold the values of freedom and democracy.
