21St Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum – Abusive Practices in Global Economic Expansion
Mr. Joseph Humire thanked Robert Pittenger for organizing the forum and stressed the importance of discussing abusive economic practices and geopolitical expansion. He noted that the war between Russia and Ukraine shows how geopolitical conflicts affect global economies, causing rising prices for commodities like wheat and fertilizers in countries like Guatemala. Humire believed Vladimir Putin expected economic sanctions from NATO and the U.S. rather than direct military intervention.
He explained that Russia, along with China, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea, is trying to weaken the Western-led financial system and reduce reliance on the U.S. dollar by using alternative payment systems and disinformation campaigns, including messaging from Kremlin-backed media like RT. Humire concluded that these alliances challenge the current international order, and democratic nations must cooperate to protect free markets, transparency, and the rules-based global system.
