21St Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum – Remarks
In his remarks, Congressman Gregory Steube underscored the significance of international security collaboration and expressed regret for not attending the forum in person due to congressional obligations in Washington. He highlighted several global security concerns, including the resurgence of extremist groups such as the Taliban and the Islamic State, geopolitical tensions following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and potential strategic calculations by China regarding Taiwan. He connected global instability to policy failures following the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan and cautioned about threats from terrorism, drug trafficking, and illegal migration at the U.S. southern border. Steube advocated for enhanced cooperation among nations to combat cartels, terrorism financing, and narcotics trafficking, while promoting legislation to prevent funds from reaching terrorist-controlled regimes. He also emphasized the importance of safeguarding religious freedom worldwide and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to opposing authoritarian regimes, upholding human rights, and strengthening economic and security cooperation with partners such as Guatemala.
